🏊♀️💦 Hey, fellow swimmers! After 30 years in the pool and having tried on hundreds of swimsuits, I've learned the hard way what works and what doesn't when it comes to swimwear. Today, I’m sharing some serious advice for those of you who are serious about swimming as a part of your daily life (no posing or styling here!). Let’s dive in! 🌊✨
🔍 First off, let’s talk about what to avoid:
Steer clear of lace, ruffles, or mesh materials!
Avoid swimsuits with hard clasps, zippers, or ties that require manual adjustment.
Skip thin or overly wide straps, halter necks, strapless designs, and side-cut styles.
These designs can seriously compromise how well your suit fits (a.k.a. "water pockets"), making it harder to move efficiently through the water and increasing drag. No one wants that!
🩳 Next up, let’s discuss two-piece versus square-cut swimsuits. This is a personal choice. I know some elite swimmers swear by two-pieces, while others choose square-cut suits for modesty. However, I believe that professional swimwear fabrics blend better with water than with our skin, helping to create a smooth surface that reduces underwater resistance. Plus, a full coverage on the belly can prevent cramps from temperature changes. Personally, I'm a fan of triangular cut bottoms—they allow me to kick freely during freestyle and breaststroke. (Watch out for rolling edges with square-cut styles!)
⏳ Lastly, remember that swimsuits have a lifespan! I recommend limiting each suit to about 30 wears. For my favorite styles, I buy multiple pieces to alternate. Also, avoid using any soap-based detergents for washing your swimsuits and always lay them flat to dry—no hanging to prevent stretching!
💖 Here are two of my go-to swimsuits that I’ve been loving lately! Which style is your favorite? Let’s keep swimming strong together! 🏊♀️✨
